Biography

Hyunsu (Eden) Kim is a South Korean composer currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) in Music Composition at the University of Texas at Austin. Concurrently, he is engaged in advanced studies at the Accademia di Musica di Pinerolo under Ivan Fedele. He holds both a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music degree in Composition from Keimyung University. Throughout his artistic development, he has been mentored by professors Eun-Ho Chang, Sung-Ah Shin, Chang-Min Park, and Jae-Hee Kim. He is currently further expanding his creative and academic horizons through his doctoral research in the United States.

His work is driven by the pursuit of musical integrity, a process of maintaining the honesty of an initial impulse through clear and responsible musical decisions. He specializes in translating abstract elements such as fleeting emotions and vivid imager into a specific musical logic. To bridge the gap between intuition and notation, he employs a multilayered methodology that begins with clarifying his conceptual response through reflective writing.

This process is then translated into geometric structures involving circles, triangles, and zigzag patterns. These shapes serve as rational maps rather than mere symbols, guiding his decisions on pitch organization, rhythmic density, and formal architecture. By establishing this structural framework, he ensures that every creative choice is both intentionally grounded and expressive, ultimately balancing structural clarity with artistic intuition.
